Greetings, The 2005 whale and bird watching season was great. We had many creatures in and on our waters this past summer. Our regular pair of Blue Whales returned in early July and stayed with us throughout the summer with multiple sightings every week. We had about 15 large (40' - 70'+) Finbacks from the spring up until we closed for the season at the end of October. Humpbacks were in the area from July throughout October with many good sightings. 2005 was the busiest season in 5 years for Leatherback turtle sightings, we saw as many as 5 animals on one three hour trip. Lots of very large Ocean Sunfish (Mola Mola), the largest bony fish in all the oceans, were with us for July and August. Atlantic White Sided Dolphins as well as White Beaked Dolphins were also plentiful. Atlantic Puffins, Razorbills, Black Guillimots, Shearwaters, (Sooty & Greater) , Storm Petrels, and Terns, were all in good numbers. Giant Bluefin Tuna were launching out of the water all over the place. Gray and Harbour Seals were always present at the ledges . We are looking forward to another successful season in 2006. All The Best, Captain Walter |
